Japanese-inspired courtyard

A complete make-over of a courtyard space at the rear of a heritage property in Turramurra – a character-filled residence nestled amongst beautiful old gardens and homes; this outdoor room required a neat connection off a new kitchen and living room via french doors and retention of an existing connection down a side passage to the larger front garden. Over-looked by homes to the rear and side, retention of existing and establishment of new boundary screening was critical. The brief included somewhere to sit and relax with toes dangling in running water, a generous covered area for cooking and lounging with family and friends, dissolution of ongoing, chronic drainage issues and a child-friendly atmosphere.

Features include a fish pond, rock walling, a waterfall, wide-board hardwood decking, granite paving and steppers, recycled materials (post-quarry waste tumbled pebble and reclaimed post timbers), hand-selected andesite rock, clumping bamboo, built-in BBQ, cabana with terracotta shingle roof and raked ship-lap ceiling, LED lighting and advanced mixed plantings.
