Landscape architecture and garden design

Residential | COMMERCIAL | public domain projects

We are an award winning landscape architectural practice specialising in high-end garden and open space design and construction co-ordination. Co-founder Andrew is a registered landscape architect with over 25 years of industry experience. He has worked alongside many of the profession’s finest practitioners and brings a wealth of knowledge, professionalism and local expertise to every project. Andrew established CALDESIGN with partner and Interior Designer Claudia in 2004. In 2016 Andrew and team won the prestigious AILA NSW Award of Excellence and the AILA National Landscape Architecture Award for their Warrawee Estate project - a large private garden on Sydney's upper north shore.

Our services are broad and comprehensive and include concept design and master planning, site design, detailed design and construction documentation, full DA and CDC (Complying Development Certificate) submissions, planting, lighting and swimming pool design, tender and construction-phase services, expert witness and advice, contractor and consultant co-ordination, product sourcing and supply. We have extensive experience with sites that are ecologically sensitive, bushfire-prone and those impacted by heritage and other planning constraints. We see great opportunity where little or none is apparent.

Our design process is collaborative and client-focused, ensuring results that are both beautiful and practical. Whenever possible, we also prioritise the preservation of original architectural features, or where required, a respectful restoration that honours the building’s history and character.

1 - Initial Consultation
Every landscape project begins with an initial consultation where we take the time to understand your vision, lifestyle, site requirements, and overall project goals.
2 - Concept Development
We begin developing the creative direction for your outdoor space, exploring layout, functionality, planting character, materiality, and the overall relationship between landscape and architecture.
3 - Design Development
Once the concept has been approved, we refine and develop the design in greater detail, carefully considering spatial planning, hardscape elements, planting selections, finishes, and functionality.
4 - Presentation & Refinement
We present the developed landscape design for review and feedback, allowing us to refine the selections and ensure the final outcome aligns with your vision, practical requirements, and investment expectations.
5 - Documentation & Coordination
Following design approval, we prepare the required documentation and coordinate with suppliers, contractors, and trades to support a seamless project delivery.
6 - Installation & Final Detailing
The final stage is where the vision comes to life. We oversee installation and complete the finishing details to ensure the landscape feels cohesive, functional, and beautifully resolved.
